PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP WITH MARTHA RIAL
Photographing the Chautauqua Community
A Documentary Workshop with Photographer Martha Rial
Join Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Martha Rial for an intensive, hands-on two-day
workshop exploring the art of documentary photography.
DAY ONE: The morning presentation will focus on important techniques and skills designed to
help participants better understand documentary photography followed by an afternoon of
photographing the Chautauqua Lake area. Participants are encouraged to explore the
Chautauqua community while identifying and documenting individuals (or groups) that reflect the
future of the community. Later in the afternoon Martha will be available for one-on-one critiques
of the day’s work.
DAY TWO: A group critique and discussion of participant’s work in the morning to be followed by additional shooting in the field.
The workshop concludes in the evening with another group critique and presentation.
A selection of the work produced in this workshop will be featured at local businesses and at LakeArts’ online gallery.
Participants must provide their own digital camera (DSLR preferred) and memory cards and must have basic working
knowledge of their camera. If you have a laptop computer with editing software, please bring it. Some
additional laptops will be available for use.
